Take a look below at some frequently asked questions and some tips and tricks on how to get the best results possible on registration day.

Tips & Tricks to Make the Most of Registration Day:
  • View your programs in advance and write down the barcodes of the ones you’d prefer so you can easily search for them when registration opens and have these on hand in case you need to call in on registration day.

  • Have a top 3, 4, or 5 of your choices in case your number one fills up – the more flexible you can be with your schedule, the better!

  • Make sure you know which swimming level your child is going into before registration opens.  Please see below our frequently asked questions for how to determine the correct swimming level.

  • Contact us with any questions about your programs before registration day for the most efficient support.

  • Log into your portal account before registration day! It will help you immensely if you have your account set up, know your password, have everyone on your account that you need to register for programs, and have your payment method(s) up to date.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fall programs run from September to December. For specific start and end dates, please check the program descriptions.

There are two ways to see all the available programs: through our program search page on our website and through our member portal under the Programs & Day Camps section (an account is not required to view the programs on the portal but is required to register for programs when they open).

There are a couple of different ways you can search for programs – by name of program, type of program, age range, location, and/or days of the week. You can also filter by client or dependent and programs shown will be those that the person selected is eligible for (such as age range).

If you have an active YMCA Calgary membership, you are a member. If you need to clarify if you have an active membership or not, log in to your portal > My Profile > Clients > and verify under Account Clients if you are a member or not. If you look under the "Membership" column will identify which type you have.

Yes. To speed up the process on registration day, please ensure you have created an account if you do not already have one. You can access the member portal here. You will have the option to connect your account to an existing YMCA Calgary membership if you have one or create a new account without linking it to a membership if you do not have one.

You can determine if you have a portal account by confirming online or contacting us before registration day to confirm which email address is connected to your account if you’re unsure.

There are a few things you can do to best prepare for registration day:

  • Make sure you know your email and password! If you need assistance resetting it in advance, please call us and we’ll be happy to help.

  • Make sure you have your updated payment information on your account.

  • Make sure your child(ren) and/or dependent(s) are listed under your account if you are planning to register on someone else’s behalf.

Log in to your portal account > My Profile > Payment Method. From here, you will have the option to deactivate any current payment method(s) on file or add a new payment method. Follow the prompts on screen, and you’ll be good to go.

Log in to your portal account > My Profile > Clients. From here, you will be able to see who all is listed on the account.

Log in to your portal account > My Profile > Clients > Add Additional > follow the prompts and hit Save.

Please note: currently, we do not offer the ability to sign someone new up as a member through the portal. If you need to register someone as a member, please contact Customer Service at your local YMCA Calgary branch.

Many programs are sorted by age, and the portal will automatically determine which category or level of program your child should be in.

For aquatics, if you are new to swimming lessons at YMCA Calgary, you can take our free assessment quiz to determine which level of swimming is the best fit. If your child is under 15 years old and is new to swimming (or, for example, has taken one lesson before), we recommend enrolling in the Otters and Seals program.

Any child under the age of 6 should be enrolled in the Splashers and Bubblers program (3 months to 3 years) or the Bobbers and Floaters program (3 to 5 years).

If you and/or your children have taken swimming lessons at the YMCA previously, but you are unsure which level you/they were in, you can check your/their progress card through SwimGen, using your member/program barcode to log in. If you need assistance logging into SwimGen in advance of registration day, please contact your local YMCA Calgary branch.

Please note that if your child is currently taking swimming lessons, during parent week, our swim instructors will end each lesson about 5 minutes early to let you know which level your child should enroll in next.

Yes. To see the different day and time offerings available for the program(s) you’re interested in, log in to our portal, head to Programs & Day Camps > Register for Programs > search for your program, and the search results will show the program and each of its day/time offerings available.

On the portal, head to Programs & Day Camps > Register for Programs > Location dropdown > select your preferred facility > Search.

When you search for a program on our portal, you can filter by Session. Select Winter 2024 as your Session and it will show you all of the fall programs you can register for. You can confirm it’s a winter session by looking at the dates – a fall session will run from January to March.

After you search for a program on our portal, click on “Registration Information” of that program the “>” arrow to the left of the program name. This will drop down additional information, including the member and nonmember price of the program.

Yes, but you will need to ensure your account is set up with your financial assistance. As this is not automatically done when you are on financial assistance, please ensure you talk to Customer Service to get it set up in advance of registration day.

If you have accidentally registered for the wrong program, you can cancel by going back to your profile in the portal > clicking on My Programs > finding the program you want to cancel > clicking the trash icon to the right of it.

When you’re ready to register, be sure to only have only one web browser tab open and add all your preferred programs to a single shopping cart. If the browser takes longer than 3 minutes to refresh, manually refresh the browser and that should get you to the check-out point. If you have any further questions, please contact our Engagement Centre.
