At the YMCA, we believe in people. We see their potential. We find strength in telling stories of our differences and find inspiration in sharing our diversity – all with the purpose of bringing us closer together.
Meet Callum Monteith, our General Manager of Health, Safety & Risk. With the help of his team, Callum ensures the Y’s members, volunteers and staff stay safe and have fun.
Callum started his Y journey in 2015 coming from England to experience Canada for the first time, landing at Camp Chief Hector as a counselor. He attributes his experience at Camp to becoming the person he is now. Callum fell in love with the Y, and at the same time fell in love with his wife, who he met there. He returned for three more summers as a camp counselor before heading back to England to finish his degree. His wife accompanied him back across the pond, but they both knew the Y and Calgary were where they were meant to be.
“The Y provided me with the opportunities to grow and develop, I’ve always felt my values aligned with the Y.”
Callum prides himself in contributing to creating a safe space for our community to belong, grow, thrive and lead. With the help of his team, Callum will provide over 100 standard first aid and CPR-C classes in 2023, and will also ensure the Y continues to be safe and fun for the whole community.
“We see millions of people come to the Y every year, I get to make sure they all feel safe.”
At YMCA Calgary, there is always someone willing to go the extra mile to support you, whether it’s a tour of the facility, opening a wallet locker or answering questions. Callum can’t speak highly enough about the Y’s dedication to the community and that the staff truly care for their members.
“Some of the best people work at the Y and I get to be a part of that.”
