David Richardson, Health & Fitness Supervisor at Remington YMCA in Quarry Park, recently had the honour of attending the Developmental Disabilities Resource Centre (DDRC) Inclusion Awards Dinner on behalf of his branch. Remington YMCA was nominated for an award by volunteer Amelia and her support worker Marcela. Both Amelia and Marcela have been volunteering at the YMCA’s weight floor every Wednesday for nearly a year. Their presence has become a highlight for members, bringing smiles, laughter and warm energy to every space they enter.
While Amelia and Marcela nominated Remington YMCA for creating an inclusive environment, the evening became even more special when both of them received their own inclusion awards. Their contributions and commitment to fostering a welcoming space have left a lasting impact on the community, and their recognition was a proud moment for all at the YMCA.
Our promise
We believe in people. We see their potential. We see strengths in our differences and inspiration in our diversity. We are the neighbour you can count on, a place for everyone; a space to play, to challenge yourself, to build resilience and to grow. The journey may start with a splash, a bounce, or a crunch under your boots; and if we do our part, it will lead to a healthier, more vibrant community. Your YMCA exists so that everyone has an opportunity to belong.
The DDRC Inclusion Awards Dinner was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen partnerships, especially with the DDRC, and to be inspired by the many stories of individuals and organizations working to promote inclusion across the community. The YMCA remains committed to creating spaces where everyone feels valued, welcome and included.
