Liliana Montenegro arrived in Canada from Colombia in the spring of 2008, filled with hopes for a new life with her husband and soon-to-be-born daughter. Settling in the neighbourhood of Richmond in Calgary, she was far from the familiar rhythms of her home country, and still adjusting to the differences of this new city.

For generations, outdoor camps have been a place for youth to foster their confidence, independence and critical thinking skills that are cornerstones for a future of success. Camp Chief Hector YMCA is one such camp. Since it first opened in 1930, the camp has dedicated itself to being a place where youth can belong, grow, thrive and lead.

When Ed Rihn saw the board of directors posting for YMCA Calgary in 2019, he couldn’t think of a better organization to contribute to.

In the spirit of reconciliation, YMCA Calgary acknowledges that it is situated on the traditional lands of the Treaty 7 First Nations of the Siksika, Piikani, Kainai, Tsuut’ina, and the three Stoney Nations, that comprise of the Chiniki, Goodstoney, and Bears Paw.
