National Philanthropy Day (NPD) is a special day set aside on the fifteenth of November every year. The purpose of this day is to recognize the great contributions of philanthropy — and those people active in the philanthropic community — to the enrichment of our world.

At YMCA Calgary, we’re dedicated to empowering young people with the tools and experiences to grow and thrive. A vital part of that mission is our Healthy Living School (HLS), which emphasizes the importance of community, and the impact each person can have on the wellbeing of their community.

Now a staple on our YMCA Arts Live Performance calendar, this 25-minute show takes the most magical parts of the beloved ballet and reimages them into a lively performance that young attention spans can enjoy.

The next time you go to Shawnessy YMCA or Remington YMCA in Quarry Park, look up! We recently held a Treaty 7 flag raising ceremony, reminding us all that everyone belongs at the YMCA. As we continue on our Truth and Reconciliation journey, we will honour and recognize the Treaty 7 Nations and urban Indigenous community by continuing to create ethical space within our YMCAs for all.

On September 28, grade 6 students in Calgary gathered together at Camp Riveredge for the 2024 Calgary Flames Grade 6 YMCA Membership kickoff – a day filled with adventure, connection, and lots of laughter. The event was a great chance for sixth graders to start the year with new friends and exciting experiences, and for many, it was their first big event as part of the Grade 6 program.
