Liliana Montenegro arrived in Canada from Colombia in the spring of 2008, filled with hopes for a new life with her husband and soon-to-be-born daughter. Settling in the neighbourhood of Richmond in Calgary, she was far from the familiar rhythms of her home country, and still adjusting to the differences of this new city.

Honouring National Indigenous History Month

In the spirit of reconciliation, YMCA Calgary acknowledges that it is situated on the traditional lands of the Treaty 7 First Nations of the Siksika, Piikani, Kainai, Tsuut’ina, and the three Stoney Nations, that comprise of the Chiniki, Goodstoney, and Bears Paw. Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, and all those who call this beautiful area home.
